Immune Cell Signaling Laboratory
Derailed inflammation has been recognized to be one of the contributory factors to the
origin/progression of various cancers. Interestingly, activation triggered metabolic changes have been proportionately correlated with the outcome of immune cell function. However, the role of host cell-small molecule metabolites derived during the physiological activity of an immune cell in regulating the subsequent fate of the immune cell still remains elusive. So, In our laboratory, we are interested in deciphering the signalling networks and associated immune cell metabolites that may not only contribute towards fine-tuning the immune cell function but also the inflammation-driven cancers.
Preliminary Results:
1. Impact of cholesterol derivatives regulating ER stress and inflammation
2. Secondary metabolites influence autophagy and impact immune cell function.
3. Activated macrophage driven EMT in epithelial cells is reduced by secondary metabolites
4. Secondary bile acids reduce activated immune cell-driven EMT

Current openings:
Applications are invited from suitable candidates for Junior Research Fellow to work on the below listed projects, under the supervision of Dr. Trinath Jamma, Department of Biological Sciences, BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus.

Highly motivated Bachelor, Master Students (DBT, ICMR, CSIR, INSPIRE fellowships) with keen interests in deciphering the molecular details underlying inflammation and cancer in the intestine are highly encouraged to apply for Ph.D. programme, summer internship and dissertation.
Prior experience (but not mandatory) with mammalian cell culture, microscopy, molecular cloning, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting qPCR, animal (mice) handling certainly helps with the progress in the given research objectives. Students will be highly encouraged to apply for SRF programmes to pursue their research career and also given the opportunity to establish collaborations with various in-house research laboratories and external to BITS.
Candidates with PhD looking forward to applying for National Post-Doc Fellowships are requested to contact much prior to the due date of the application, if interested.
Note: Students with their own fellowship and keen to take up Ph.D. programme at BITS can reach out to the faculty any time of the academic year.
